The Alcohol Change Toolkit

Knowing that you want to change your drinking is one thing. Knowing what to do when a craving arrives, you have had a terrible day, or your usual drinking time approaches is something else entirely.
The Alcohol Change Toolkit is a free collection of 15 practical exercises designed to help you understand your drinking patterns and respond differently when alcohol begins to feel automatic.
These are not drink diaries, unit calculators or worksheets created simply to keep you busy. Each tool is based on principles used in CBT, behavioural psychology, relapse prevention and addiction treatment—translated into clear, practical exercises you can use in everyday life.
Some tools help you understand what alcohol is doing for you. Others are designed for the difficult moments: when you want a drink, when your brain starts giving you permission, when you are approaching a high-risk situation or when you have drunk after intending not to.
You do not need to complete the toolkit in order. Start with the problem you are dealing with today.

The toolkit is an editable PDF. You can type directly into it on a computer, phone or tablet and save your answers. You can also print individual pages or the complete toolkit and complete them by hand.
There is no correct way to use it. You might work through a tool on your own, take it to therapy, discuss it with someone supporting you or keep a particular page available for difficult moments.
The important part is not simply writing about change. It is identifying one specific thing you can do differently next.
